PTA News

Getting to Know Your Gibson Staff:

Looking for ideas for gift giving? The PTA has put together a “Getting to Know You” book that is in the Parent Resource Center. Teachers have listed their wishes for classroom ideas as well as their favorite restaurants and places to shop. All this information is also available on the website: http://gibson.comspeco.net You will need to be registered to see teacher profiles.

Computer Sign in

In an effort to increase student safety when you come to the office to check in, you will use a computer to sign in. It will take your picture and print out a visitor's badge. When you leave you will need to come in and sign out on the computer.

Student Dress Code

Student dress and appearance is expected to conform to Clark County School District's Regulations. Students must wear shoes with soles and shoes must have straps. No flip flops are permitted. Spaghetti straps are not permitted: all sleeveless shirts must have straps at least three inches wide and cover the shoulders. Shorts, skits and dresses must be fingertip length. Students violating the dress code will be sent to office. Parents will be called and asked to bring appropriate clothing to school.

Subject: Asset 23: Homework

Homework-an important part of reaching goals

Remember when you were a student and wished the teacher would say, "No homework today. Go home and have some fun!" You may have loved the lectures and the learning, but dreaded the tests and homework assignments. Well, you're not alone. Most young people would rather play with their video games than sit down to read The Great Gatsby or work on statistics. But any goal worth achieving takes hard work in the classroom and at home. In addition to reaching academic goals, doing homework teaches young people to follow directions, manage their time, and work on their own. Homework is Asset 23 of Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets, the qualities, experiences, and relationships that help young people grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.
